Currently, most domestic enterprises have low-end PI products, and high-end polyimide film products in China mainly rely on imports. With the continuous increase in domestic market demand and the suppression of domestic high-tech by foreign markets, localization is becoming increasingly urgent.

With the popularization of 5G and the rapid deepening development of the electronics industry, the application of PI thin films not only continues to grow in traditional insulation and flexible copper-clad laminates, but also shows new application prospects in many fields. High performance PI thin films have broad market prospects in technology industries such as flexible organic thin film solar cells, flexible LCD and OLED displays, and lithium-ion batteries. At present, PI thin films have received widespread attention and applications in fields such as fuel cells, sensor devices, gas separation membranes, transparent and flexible substrates.

The application of domestic PI film products is mostly limited to the low-end insulation material field, and the independent research and development level of high-end PI film products is not high. Although research and application in some fields have reached the world's advanced level, there is still a significant gap with foreign products, and the technical process level is not as good as that of leading manufacturers in developed countries abroad.

However, the research and development level of PI film products in our country is still constantly improving. With the continuous refinement of new industry and functional requirements, traditional polyimide (PI) is difficult to adapt to new needs due to structural limitations. The development of functional polyimide (PI) products that continuously optimize solubility, processability, and specific structures through molecular structure design, new synthesis technologies, and nanocomposites will be the direction of researchers' research.

The future development trend of the PI film industry should be continuous new product development, improving product quality, and expanding production, moving towards high-performance, multifunctional, easy to form and process, and low-cost directions. High performance PI films with differentiation and special applications will also play an important role in a few specific industries.
