The market size of PI film is expected to reach 2.45 billion US dollars in 2022, with a list of 30 domestic and foreign enterprises attached

Polyimide (PI)It refers to high molecular weight polymers containing amide structures in the main chain, and is known as one of the most promising engineering plastics of the 21st century. PI performance ranks at the top of the polymer material pyramid, with the highest flame retardant rating (UL-94), as well as good electrical insulation performance, mechanical performance, chemical stability, aging resistance, radiation resistance, and low dielectric loss performance, and these properties do not undergo significant changes over a wide temperature range (-269 ° C-400 ° C). Polyimide film is its main application form and one of the important raw materials in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. It can be used as cable insulation material, thermal insulation material, radiation protection material, recording carrier material, etc. Especially in the application of flexible printed circuit board industry, PI film has become an irreplaceable key material in the power, electrical, microelectronics and precision machinery industries.

PI films can be divided into high-performance films and standard films, and there is still a gap between domestic high-performance products and foreign ones. The key characteristics of standard PI film are temperature resistance level and insulation strength, as a traditional high-grade electrical insulation material. High performance PI films, applied in new application fields beyond traditional electrical insulation, usually have significant advantages in one or more performance aspects, such as thermal performance, dielectric performance, optical performance, mechanical performance, and environmental stability. For a long time, the research and manufacturing technology of high-performance PI films worldwide has been mainly controlled by companies from the United States, Japan, and South Korea. Manufacturers such as DuPont from the United States, Ube Industries from Japan, Zhongyuan Chemical from Japan, and SKPI from South Korea hold over 80% of the global market share. The overall technological level of the domestic PI film industry lags behind that of foreign giants, and most enterprises have difficulty meeting the requirements for preparing high-performance PI films due to their limited technical strength. Moreover, their scale is generally small, resulting in a low market share in the field of high-performance PI films. Currently, some domestic production enterprises have begun to lay out PI for flexible AMOLED, but a complete industrial system has not yet been formed, and there is still a certain distance from achieving large-scale industrial applications.

PI film productsThe future will mainly develop towards high-performance direction, FPC、 Flexible OLED and graphite film drive the rapid growth of demand for PI thin films. At present, FPC accounts for about 50% of the downstream consumption of PI film, and has become the largest and fastest-growing application field in the global polyimide film market. With the development of technologies such as 5G communication and the Internet of Things driving the upgrade of consumer electronics products, the requirements for material heat dissipation and dielectric properties are becoming increasingly high. The rapid development of flexible display technologies such as curved screens and foldable screens will accelerate the development of the electronic grade PI market in the future. In terms of electrical applications, PI film is commonly used in advanced insulation systems such as variable frequency motors and generators due to its corona resistance and high insulation properties. The stable growth of the high-speed rail, wind power, and new energy vehicle markets has driven the continuous expansion of the electrical grade PI film market. With the progress of downstream electronics and electrical industries, it is expected that the global market size of PI thin film materials will reach 2.45 billion US dollars in 2022.
