Advantages and disadvantages of lithium iron phosphate batteries and ternary lithium batteries
1. Energy density: The energy density of ternary lithium is about 1.7 times that of lithium iron phosphate, so the volume and weight of ternary lithium batteries will be smaller than that of lithium iron phosphate batteries, and the weight of cars will also be smaller.
2. Safety performance: Lithium iron phosphate batteries perform better in needle puncture tests and have much better stability than ternary lithium batteries in high-temperature environments, which means that ternary lithium batteries naturally have a larger proportion.
3. Service life: During the process of power decay from 100% to 80%, the charge and discharge cycle life of lithium iron phosphate batteries can reach more than 3500 times, while ternary lithium batteries only have about 2500 times. And at the same number of cycles, the remaining capacity of lithium iron phosphate batteries will also be higher than that of ternary lithium batteries.
4. Low temperature performance: The maximum operating temperature of lithium iron phosphate batteries is minus 20 degrees Celsius, while that of ternary lithium batteries is minus 30 degrees Celsius. Moreover, under the same low temperature environment, the attenuation of lithium iron phosphate batteries will be higher than that of ternary lithium batteries.
Both ternary lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries have their own advantages, and when the prices are almost the same, you can choose according to the driving environment. If the local climate is relatively cold, then choose ternary lithium batteries. Because ternary lithium batteries have good low-temperature performance, even in minus 20 degrees Celsius weather, their heating performance can still reach over 70%.
On the contrary, if the local climate is relatively hot, then lithium iron phosphate batteries can be chosen. Due to the excellent heat resistance of lithium iron phosphate batteries, the temperature of thermal runaway can reach over 800 degrees Celsius, and spontaneous combustion is unlikely to occur in hot areas. The thermal runaway temperature of lithium batteries is only around 200 degrees, which can be somewhat dangerous for hot areas.
As for the service life, lithium iron phosphate batteries will indeed be longer than ternary lithium batteries, but there is no need to worry about it. Because for household cars, whether it is ternary lithium batteries or lithium iron phosphate batteries, the rated life of power batteries is far from the actual user's usage habits.
