In order to gain a deeper understanding of the performance differences of gold-plated films, we selected two common substrates - polyimide (PI) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) - and conducted detailed performance tests on their gold-plated films.

Experimental Design and Methods

This study was supported by Advanced Institute (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd. and prepared using standard electroplating processesPI gold-plated film and PET gold-plated filmSample. The sample thickness is controlled at 0.5 μ m, and then its resistivity, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength are tested separately.

Data Results

  • Electrical resistivity: According to the test results, the electrical resistivity of PI gold-plated film is 0.1 μ Ω· cm, while that of PET gold-plated film is 0.12 μ Ω· cm. Although there is not much difference between the two, in precision electronic devices, this small difference can significantly affect product performance.
  • Corrosion resistance: Through salt spray testing, it was found that the PI gold plating film showed no significant changes after continuous exposure to salt spray environment for 72 hours, while the PET gold plating film exhibited slight oxidation.
  • Mechanical strength: Tensile tests show that the fracture strength of PI gold-plated film is 18MPa, which is better than the 16MPa of PET gold-plated film.镀金膜
