1、 Introduction

3、 Experimental setup and measurement methods


In order to study the reflection characteristics of PET gold plating film under different wavelengths of light, we have built a professional optical measurement system. The system uses an adjustable wavelength light source, which can cover a wide spectral range from ultraviolet light (200nm -400nm) to visible light (400nm -760nm) and then to near-infrared light (760nm -2500nm). The light is collimated and vertically irradiated onto the surface of the PET gold-plated film sample, and the reflected light is collected and analyzed by a spectrophotometer. By measuring the intensity and phase information of reflected light at different wavelengths, we can obtain the reflectance curve of PET gold plating film as a function of wavelength. During the experiment, we tested multiple sets of PET gold-plated film samples produced by Advanced Institute (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd. with different gold layer thicknesses to comprehensively investigate the effect of gold layer thickness on reflection characteristics.

4、 The relationship between reflection characteristics and wavelength

(1) UV light region


In the ultraviolet region, due to the strong absorption and scattering of ultraviolet light by gold atoms, PET gold-plated filmThe reflectivity is relatively low. As the wavelength gradually increases from 200nm to 400nm, the reflectivity shows a slow upward trend. For example, when the thickness of the gold layer is 50nm, the reflectivity at 200nm wavelength is about 20%, and the reflectivity increases to about 30% at 400nm wavelength. (2) Visible light region

For samples with a gold layer thickness of 100nm, the reflectivity can be as low as about 35% at a wavelength of 480nm. This is due to the special interaction between the plasmon resonance effect of the gold layer and light in the vicinity of this wavelength band, where some energy is coupled into the plasma oscillation inside the gold layer, resulting in a decrease in reflected light. In the red and yellow light bands of 550nm to 760nm, the reflectivity gradually increases, and at 760nm, the reflectivity can reach between 45% and 55%, showing a good reflection effect.

(3) Near infrared region


In the near-infrared region, PET gold-plated filmThe reflectivity continues to increase with the increase of wavelength. When the wavelength reaches 2500nm, for a sample with a gold layer thickness of 200nm, the reflectivity can reach over 80%. This is because at long wavelengths, the free electrons in the gold layer dominate the reflection of light, and as the wavelength increases, the interaction between light and the gold layer becomes more in line with the classical reflection theory model, resulting in a continuous increase in reflectivity.

5、 Analysis of factors affecting reflection characteristics

(1) Thickness of gold layer


The thickness of the gold layer is one of the key factors affecting the reflection characteristics of PET gold plating film. Thinner gold layers may exhibit lower reflectivity at short wavelengths due to discontinuities, while as the thickness of the gold layer increases, the reflectivity gradually increases at long wavelengths. For example, when the thickness of the gold layer increases from 50nm to 200nm, the reflectivity can be increased by about 30% -40% at a wavelength of 2500nm. However, the thicker the gold layer, the better. Overly thick gold layers can lead to increased costs, increased membrane stress, and absorption peaks in certain frequency bands. 镀金膜

(2) PET substrate characteristics


The refractive index and surface flatness of PET substrate also affect the reflection characteristics of PET gold plating film.
